7 Cakes that match your Paperless Post invitations

We talked with some talented bakers, who created beautiful cakes to match Paperless Post invitations, to learn more about their process and inspiration for these impressive sweet treats.

1. Colorful layer cake

Mila Ciprut (@milaisbaking) is a self-taught baker and content creator based in Istanbul, Turkey. She used our cheerful “Layer Cake” invitation by Rifle Paper Co. as inspiration for a colorful cake creation that would be a festive—and delicious—addition to any party.
For this vibrant dessert, Ciprut was particularly drawn to the celebratory sprinkles in the invitation’s design. “What preceded baking and cake decorating for me was sprinkles! I love the festivity and joy they bring to any dessert,” she exclaims. “They adorn most of my cakes and nothing screams celebration more than sprinkles. I love to cover my cakes in them and make a bold statement that we are here to celebrate any event.”
2. Ski slopes cake

This snowy concoction by Ciprut would impress guests at any après-ski gathering or winter-themed festivity and is a perfect match for our Ski Time Flyer invite. “I’m a big fan of winter and skiing,” she explains. “I wanted to have groomed slopes and a bunch of skiers—some who know what they’re doing, and some in the bushes!”
3. Friendly fox cake
Elizabeth Mayhew (@elizabethmayhew) is a Millbrook, New York-based cake designer who creates charming, personalized desserts to sweeten up any celebration. She used Happy Menocal’s fun and festive “Friendly Foxes” invitation as inspiration for this one-of-a-kind creation that matched the guest of honor’s taste (and taste buds!) to a T.
“The cake was made for a gentleman who is a consummate sportsman: fishing, horseback riding, and sporting clays—all activities very popular in Millbrook, where he lives,” says Mayhew. “I was inspired by Happy’s invitation because the foxes are doing the birthday boy’s other favorite activities: eating, drinking, and making merry!”
4. Champagne toast cake
Mayhew drew inspiration from Happy Menocal’s “Busy Gettin’ Fizzy” design for this sparkling strawberry shortcake that undoubtedly paired perfectly with the bubbly toasts of an engagement celebration. “Many Paperless Post invites lend themselves to my style of cake decorating—pretty, colorful, and illustrative,” she describes. “I tend to use them as a starting point and then embellish them with scallop borders, polka dots, flowers, or other decorative elements to fill in the white space.”
5. Dinosaur tiered cake
Self-taught Brooklyn-based cake decorator Melissa Torres (@cakeheronyc) creates gorgeous tiered cakes for weddings, baby showers, and birthday parties alike—such as this impressively-iced confection modeled after our adorable “Dino Fest” invitation by Happy Menocal.
“The directive from the birthday boy was to only include ‘nice dinosaurs’,” Torres explains. “From the invite, I hand painted a watercolor rendition of the jungle and used fondant to create 3D ivy, to help the jungle come alive on the cake. I finished the cake with hand-cut “nice” dinosaurs, wearing jolly little hats.”
6. Safari animals cake
Torres used Paperless Post’s “Vine Print” baby shower invitation to inspire this wildly fun and original cake design. “This is a favorite of mine. I love the juxtaposition of the jungle behind the animals, made with hand-textured buttercream, and the 2D fondant hand-painted animals hanging on vines. It was fun to take the design and make it into a mommy-and-me theme, giving each animal a baby counterpart.”
7. Construction truck cake

Kansas-based baker Cara Pile (@septembermooncupcakery) likes to think outside-the-pan for her creative cupcake creations. This clever construction-themed cupcake-cake matches with our adorable “Party Truck” invitation by Meri Meri—and as an added benefit, makes serving partygoers a breeze.
“I frosted all the cupcakes as one big cake, and then they are pulled apart and eaten as individual cupcakes when it’s time to enjoy,” says Pile. “It’s a creative cake idea that requires no slicing!
